Dear Basella alba, you are an awesome spinach. 

Its 8c outside, I just cut the last of what I call tender annuals. I drag basella alba inside and some sweet potato slips, because ...just I can't leave them frosted outside.

Inspired by Telsing, I will plant sweet potato next year. Yahoo!... That's decided. Hurray to sweet potatoes. It will be in the ground and in the tubs, and everywhere.

This is a unique heirloom climbing spinach, very common in the Philippines.
We call this plant alugbati. It is edible, and safe for children and pets.

i planted some in my garden last year, and i have decent harvest despite the heat wave. Heat loving, climbing spinach. Something edible to cover an ugly fence as well.

I am a home gardener in the South Keys area, who love to garden using organic and heirloom seeds. I originally acquired these seeds last year, and tested in my backyard garden.

I have save my seeds, and I germinated more than enough for my small garden. You will not find these heirloom seedlings at the garden center, so here is your chance to plant something organic, heirloom in your garden. 

it is miniature, so mine was planted in 5 gallon buckets with a tomato trellis. 

The pictures are of my own plant from last year. 

Needs hardening, I would not plant this yet. I'd say last week of May, so reserve yours now.

The weather is officially good, kids love to wear shorts and I am personally enjoying it. But not yet time to bring the plant's out. Around Victoria Day weekend is the time to plant them in the ground.

I braved and bring Basella alba, Basella rubra , and one Miniature cucumber in the backyard. I find this to be just an experiment. No covers - just if it takes off, then it takes off. If its dead, oh well.

In the front, I planted my edible planters for the kids. They love squirting water in the pot.

I put a combination of amaranthus, nasturtium, swiss chard, carrots. Don't know which one gets in to which pot. LOL, I have like 4 pots, I know all of them has nasturtium, but where the carrots or amaranthus is - i have to see when they come up. The peas are out, Kieren had a blast squirting water.

SO, hopefully, this is the start of planting more and more.

On Paula's frontyard (i garden my neighbors yard too ) - i put in 4 o clocks, rose balsam, sweet william  and marigolds. The hosta and coneflowers are coming up too, the pulmonaria are both out in pink and blues. Very beautiful indeed.

Aside from the cat starting to dig in the garden, the Hyacinthus blooming inspires me.
